Comments for Lovett, Lyle, I Love Everybody

Anyone who is wondering whether or not to try Mr. Lovett out or not, I have one suggestion: Do it! Man, I can promise you that you will not regret it. The man is a lyrical genius with his finger on the pulse of a dead body. Try out this album first and then build backwards, chronologically. Also, Lyle went to Klein High School in Spring, TX. My alma mater. Thank you very much. L.L. Lyrical sampling: There is nothing so deep as the ocean There is nothing so high as the sky And there is nothing unwavering as a woman When she's already made up her mind.

Jeffrey, you are talking shite. Like all of Lovett's albums, there are one or two faintly amusing tracks, but most of the songs are musically worthless, and utterly unmemorable. Lovett should stick to (bad) acting, rather than distracting attention from artists of some worth, such as his friend R.E. Keen. Strictly for the tone deaf.

Dearest Tom, I heartily disagree with your surmising concerning Mr. Lovett's talents. In the first place, if you did not have some interest in Mr. Lovett, you would not have checked him up on the old Lovett Page. Number two, although England is a nice country, keep in mind that these United States of America kicked your skinny bum back in 1776 (does the Revolutionary War ring a bell, or are you too busy eating crumpets and drinking tea to remember the Dec. Of Ind.?) Seriously, Mr. Lovett is a brilliant songwriter with amazingly poetic talents, which are only amplified by his subtle musical techniques. I heartily encourage you take a good long look at Mr. Lovett's music and ponder the words he writes. Can you really tell me that Mr. Lovett's creaking tones do not amplify the subtle searchings, yearnings and memories of "This Old Porch?" I am afraid not. Sorry about the England comments...just good old American sense o' humor. Good luck in the Olympics.

How about limiting line length on the comments? (This is not meant as a flame.)

Not his best. Lyle needs to organize this stuff before releasing it. Perhaps he's distracted of late. Still, there are some gems here.

I'll give in to the idea that this album feels a little disjointed, but it is still a fine work. These are all old songs written circa. mid-80's, so their coherency is a little muddled (as any compilation of old stuff may be). Look for fresh work from the High-Haired One around May or summer (according to his interview in Acoustic Guitar magazine). Dang, though...Record Lady sure is a catchy song.

I honestly cannot imagine that people are missing what there is here. From soup to nuts, from "Skinny Legs" (an old favorite of mine) and "Fat Babies" through to "Good-bye to Carolina", this is a *great* album. If you've listened to it once or twice and don't like it, listen to it again. It's charming. It's witty. It's dark. It's funny. I hope you get it.

I agree that this is a great album. It's the first album that I bought and now I have five of Lyle's albums. This is still the best one so far.

Either you get Lyle or you don't. The man has my heart.

I'm Randy Watson of the now defunct country western band Sektual Choklate. My opinion is as follows... Lyle Lovett is queer to the tits. He loves it up the poop shoot. Paint the Brown walls White. Julia licks clit and was just in the relationship for $$$publicity$$$reasons$$$. They are both queer to the tits (sorry to the gay community... really I'm on your side!) Lyle has no skills other than hair dressing. Quit while you're behind. Well, quit while you're ahead... even though you're not. Quit. Hurry. An untimely death is the next best thing for you. Did I say untimely?

Randy, if you''re so informed, why''s your band dead? Lyle has a band! He has a sound! He has lyrics! And who gives a damn what he does in his personal life for criss sakes. Get along you dog!
This album is chock full of odd, yet clever vignettes. Most of the songs were written in the early eighties, so don`t go looking for clues concerning Lyle`s relationship with Julia. The songs are magnificent pieces of craftsmanship with some highlights being: Skinny Legs, Fat Babies, They Don`t Like Me, Creeps Like Me, and Say Goodbye to Carolina. Lovett has made many TV appearances singing Penguins, which, honestly is one of the weaker songs on the album. Even folks who haven`t heard much from this sensation, find this album refreshing, clean, and completely enjoyable. Man, what a treat.
