Comments for Lovett, Lyle, Pontiac

Pontiac has some incredibly funny tracks. I dare you to listen to "Give Back My Heart" and not chuckle. Also, LA County has noir written all over it. M-O-N-E-Y is pure cash. Anyone who thinks that Mr.Lovett songs are unmemorable needs to take a good long listen to this album and see if he or she doesn't find themselves humming the tune "Give back my heart chip-kicker red neck woman...take your boots and walk out of my life. " "She was ugly from the front...she was ugly from the front..she was ugly from the front..." Unmemorable? Hardly.

Lyle held a concert in Austin just prior to the release of the Large Band album. It was the songs from the Pontiac that turned my wife and me into life-long Lyle Lovett fans. The latest album is good, but it lacks the chemistry that Lyle had with Maxine Reed on the early albums.

I recently saw Mr. Lovett in concert at the FOX Theater in downtown Detroit prior to my owing this album "Pontiac". He began the show with the song "Pontiac" and blew me away. "If I had a Boat" brought a lump to my throat and "She's a no Lady" and "Hot to Go" were a joy. I bought the CD the following day and listen to it often. If it were vinyl it would be worn out by now. Groovy.

Just have to say that the singer who sounds so great along with Lyle is Francine Reed, not Maxine. When he played at Deer Creek recently, we were disappointed that she was not with him. When she is, it''s magic!
