Comments for Madredeus, Ainda

This is a superb follow up to the previous year`s acclaimed O Espirito da Paz. This is the soundtrack for the Wim Wenders film "Lisbon Story". Wenders said that he wanted music that captured the essence of Lisbon so he chose Madredeus. He couldn`t have made a better choice. Maria Teresa Salgueiro shows her impressive range in the song "Ainda" and the two instrumentals evoke powerful almost reminiscent emotions of Lisbon even if the listener has never been to Portugal. Rodrigo Leao`s keyboard work provides the perfect backdrop to accentuate Salgueiro`s voice without drowning out the other instruments. The classical guitar work of Jose Peixoto and Pedro Ayres Magalhaes are not lost here. The ever present accordeon of Gabriel Gomes unites all these instruments into the perfect blend of New Age/Fado. But enough of this banter. Buy this cassette even if it is the only one you buy this year. I guarantee you will love it.
