Comments for Moby, Run On

"Run On", the second single from Moby`s 1999 album _Play_,is based on the 1943 song "Run On For A Long Time" by Bill Landford & The Landfordaires.Moby samples three verses and the chorus, adding all the instrumentation, which includesa piano, drums, strings, guitar, and a heaping helping of Moby-ness, crusing along at 97 bpm.The first time I heard this song, I didn`t care for it, but it quickly grew on me.The B-sides are what really makes the single worthwhile, though. They are classic Mobyinstrumentals that everyone (every Moby fan, at least) should have. "Spirit" is a melodic songwith piano and strings. Over two minutes into this piece, it suddenly gets a surprise energy boostwith danceable fast drums added, then goes back to its former pace for a quiet but nice ending."Running" is another excellent track. Though it`s slow by Moby standards, its steady, simple, funky beat andbeautiful harmonic synth pads & strings, later accented by a female vocal sample ("woman") make it a great B-side track.I picture running through puddles in slow motion under a sky with big interesting clouds when I listen to this. :)All in all, this is a good purchase, especially for the B-sides.For further information, visit http://www.moby.org/reviews/runon.html
