Comments for Men Without Hats, Rhythm Of Youth

The Canadian version, which substitutes (the far superior) "Living in China" for the forgettable "Antarctica", is, in my opinion, the best album ever made. Every track save one has a hook that stays with you forever, and lead singer Ivan belts out lyrics with the in-your-face attitude of a man who knows he's created perfection.

I believe you're both wrong. The Band was from Austrailia. Do you know where I can find Rythym of Youth on CD?
E-MAIL: anderseg@student.nt.suu.edu
i would like to find this album on cd also, can anyone help me?

This is a wonderful album, full of great, melodic music and sincere lyrics. It rewards repeated listening, with layered melodies and warm synthesizer tones, unlike often "cold" techno music. The band obviously cares about the sounds they're making, which makes it that much better.

I can say that "Men Without Hats" are from Canada, that`s true. Last name of three brothers "Doroschuk" is ukrainian last name, but they speak in French-Canadian patois. One of my favourite albums - alternative way, different from "Ultravox", "Human League",etc.

Men Without Hats is *definitely* a Canadian band. They are from Montreal, Quebec. They were managed by Marc Durand, who was also responsible for bringing us The Box.

As far as CD production, this album has fallen through the cracks. Apparently the company that owned the rights went out of business, and no one else is allowed to press a CD. I fear we shall never have this one, except on vinyl. If anyone hears anything else on this, or if I am wrong, please let me know. (sw 8-12-96)

Yo fans, anybody know when 2 on 1 CD of first 2 albums will be released? world? New Zealand?

This album is a timeless classic and has been in my top ten list since it's release in 83. It's catchy, melodic, and undeniably unique. As far as the CD release goes, I spoke to Oglio Records last month and they said they are going international with this release and it should be out overseas before the end of the year and in America sometime after the new year. The CD will consist of Rythm of Youth and Folk of the 80's 3.Those of you with the original Rythm of Youth CD will want to hold on to it for the Folk of the 80's ep tracks, and damn you for having it!

I have had a lifetime of 'working the music industry' and I can honestly say that I have never heard an album like Rhythm of Youth nor a band like MWOH. Their music is unique (dare I say it in an industry of clones?) as are their sounds; I'm an electronically-based musician myself, I know electronic instruments back-to-front and I STILL can't work out what gear they use. Delicious!!

Does anyone know how I can get the lyrics to the song "I Got the Message"? I would love to know.

I too have fallen under the mystical "Hats" spell. The first album was indeed a milestone. It's strikes me a very odd how this one record affected me so deeply...almost an obsession! Groups such as Yes and Elp never did this to me, even though I love their music too Okay Ivan, just what kind of "Spell" did you cast on Rhythm of Youth. And now like William Shatner and Captain Kirk are as one so too is Ivan and ..."The Hats", or as Darwin so cleverly put it "men without hats" .The new Monkees!

E-MAIL: budgetrock@aol.com
screw cd's! buy vinyl! You can still find their lp's at the better used record stores. ROY was one of my favorite albums...till Pop Goes the World came out!

I found a promotional vinyl copy of Men Without Hats "Folk of the 80s - Part III" at a used record store here. Cost me $4 to get it. Some of the best money that I have ever spent. Found the "Collection" CD from Oglio at Best Buy. Only one they had from Men Without Hats. Well worth buying at $15.
"The Safety Dance" got into the top 10 and made Men Without Hats famous for at least 15 minutes or so.

You can get CD's of Rythm Of Youth and Folk Of The 80's (part III) from some Canadian Music shops.. the info is on menwithouthats.com. And for both albums worth of music, its $14 US$!!! woo hooo ($4 shipping, but thats cool with me. Go, Buy, Enjoy. (able to finally ditch my burned napster version and get one from the band.. makes me happy)

For those outhere who are new wave fans, this album is a masterpiece, It's a shame that MWH are only known for their hit single Safety dance, I heard that they will remastered this album very soon, just can wait!
