Comments for Asia, Then And Now

This album contains Asia's most popular songs, along with a few new tunes, including "Days Like These" which enjoyed some radio airplay a few years back. "Prayin' For A Miracle," another great Asia tune, has Toto's Steve Lukather playing guitar.

The collection icludes a Steve Howe's side and an "all the others" side. I prefer the first one, of course. Probably I'd prefer that also "Go" (by me their best hit) were included. The new songs don't sound fully satisfying. Curiously, the two signed by the celebrated duo Wetton/Downes are the worst, quite to forget. 'Days like these' is a good track (coming from an external songwriter, though) and perhaps 'Praying 4 a miracle' is the one that could remind the classic period. GUG

Well, you can argue about the 'then'-choice, but what really disappoints me in this album, is the poor quality of the 'new'-songs.They sound burned-out and overproduced. Most people who are not familiar with Asia, will think that they are listening to a bad Toto-album.

I totally agree with the person above.

This is for the the person who says Wetton sings like Lake. Wetton DOESN'T sing like Lake; Lake's PATHETIC attempt at ASIA's songs in Japan'83 was what put the first nails in ASIA's coffin. I'm so tired of people not realizing the two are not the same singer just because they both have deep voices.Imean WAKE UP ASIA fans -"ASIA in ASIA" is the reason ASIA is dead and the reason ALPHA didn't sell 8 mill. instead of two. Then and now is a great album. The new songs are great, save "SUMMER". Every ASIA song wasn't meant to sound like HEAT OF THE MOMENT. Duh.

Ugh. Let me say it again - ugh. Gotta love the "Then," right? What the hell happened to the now? The latter half of the album is atrocious; Steve Lukather caught ASIA when he was in a downspin of generic guitarplaying and dragged them down on his piece. "Days," "Prayin," and "Am I in Love" are some of the worst songs I have ever heard. They are trite and sentimental garbage. The syrup sounds like it was written by Jon Cain or Mariah Carey. A big thumbs down, folks, even in light of the brilliant "Then."

I love Asia. But this was a cheap way to get you to buy a album with only 4 new songs. Of the 10 songs on it, 6 were rereleases. Of the two new songs, Days Like These and Prayin' For A Miracle are the best. Save your money and get the Anthology 2 CD set. This is only a bargain if you cant any Asia CD's in your area.
