Actually the recording took three years.

The recording of this album (as far as I know) was not very long. Tracks like "Soon" were recorded in a short period, but then Kevin Shields (band leader & guitar) spent months remixing the sound. As far as I know the company (Creation) spent most of their cash, so the band departed shortly after the record's release. The record got splendid reviews on most magazines, and I think it's still a revolutionary album I really don't think it should be called a "grunge" record as far as the grunge phenomenon didn't exist when the record was released. All the grunge thing happened some time AFTER this record. I'd better put this band and others in the British indie scene, influenced strongly by The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Cocteau Twins.

All around a wonderful album, neat suff, and good production. If you want to be a stickler for correct categorization, grunge is completely wrong- as it tends to imply a lack of production values. Most reveiwers would categorize it as shoegazing- a comletely stupid word, but oh well. But track 1, only shallow, and the last track- soon, are really worth a listen, even if you hate everything else on the album. Both these songs are catchy as all get out. but this is an old album so if you don't have it already you're probably not reading this

grunge....hmmmmmm. not even close. layered guitars with looped feedback and breathy vocals. amazing.

grunge is a bad way to term it. shoegazing (although they really did begin it) is passe. How about post-rock? It does surpass anything to date.

The guitars, the guitars. Alternative Rock Year Zero began the day this album came out; if you don't believe me, go ask Smashing Pumpkins, or Veruca Salt, or Helium, or U2 for that matter... Gold star for Kevin Shields, for being such a dedicated neurotic: your place in musical history is assured. Now release that next album, dammit!

THE BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE FUCK? THIS ISN"T GRUNGE! THIS IS SIMPLY the greatest musical achievement that the pop world has ever witnessed...it is ethereal, disturbing, addictive, seductive, mysterious, enchanting, lovely, original, timeless... MY BLOODY VALENTINE's other stuff pales in comparison to this album...every track is genius...the first one, "Only Shallow" is the greatest song ever... RATING? 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000+

but wait... MBV will have yet another album soon!!! Let's just see if it surpasses the creative inte4grity of "loveless." And, yes, this may be getting old but GRUNGE is such a fucking stupid word, especially for my bloody valentine. So please....

CAN anyone?

This album convimces me that MBV may be the only band that really might be more important than the Beatles.

Kevin Shields is the most brilliant guitar player I have heard. If you are a big fan of his check out "E.A.R." his project with Sonic Boom of Spectrum and previously of Spacemen 3.

Actually, I always found MBV to be more experimental than grunge, but hey, who cares. this is officially the last album, but all the members are doing other stuff, like kevin with e.a.r. and deb with her new band (snowpony? bonepony? i forget.)

Grunge - Oh dear, Jesus and Mary Chain - oh deary me. Come to England, we have plenty more groups of the MBV shoe watching ilk, but still only one MBV. This is quite simply the best album of all time, spread the word....

i can't believe anyone cares how much time or money it took to record this one -- it's a fucking masterpiece!

wow, this is one of the most amazing albums i have ever heard. tasty and delicious. who said shoegazer is dead???? death to you! shoegazer is it. the only kind. forever. check out the upcoming shoegazer band ORANGE. true music.
Currently my favorite CD of all time. The production isimmaculate; rich and noisy. I believe the reording took somethingaround 9 months, it nearly sent Creation bankrupt. Anyway,it`s great, check it out.
