Comments for Oasis, Wank Crap shit wank

E-MAIL: (newspaper review)
Much about the English band Oasis sounds vaguely familiar. First of all, the way the chief songwriter Noel Gallegher puts songs together is quite reminiscent of some older British invasion bands. The Beatles are often mentioned in connection with this group, but that's a big gun that most critics shouldn't take out of the holster unless they're sure of the target. Gallegher does a pretty good job of blending melodies with layered pop arrangements, but so do a lot of other people who aren't in John Lennon and Paul McCartney's league. Then, there's the sibling rivalry bit between writer Noel and singer Liam Gallegher that plays like a B-Movie version of the battle royale staged by Ray Davies and his younger brother Dave of the Kinks. Such bickering made the Kinks into a legendary band with Dave's love of guitar rave-ups colliding with Ray's thoughtful but occaisionally diffidant songwriting. With Oasis, it's grist for interviews and the notoriously rabid English music press, but it can make listeners sick of the band for reasons other than it's music. However, for two albums, "definitly Maybe" and "(What's The Story) Morning Glory," the Galleghers have been growing up in public and improving at every turn. "morning Glory" sold in excess of 4 million copies in the United States, thanks in large part to two catchy singles, "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova." It would be great to be able to report that the band continues it's upward arc with "Be Here Now." But that's not the case. This sprawling, self-indulgent effort is the work of a band that seems to have lost touch with it's best instincts. The best pop music is about economy and simplicity. As summer fades, we all want more opportunities to beat on the steering wheel and sing along. Oh sure, we want thoughtful music sometimes, but Oasis has never made itself out to be among pops big thinkers. There is not a single moment in the 72 or so minutes of music of "Be Here Now" that will even tempt your hands to move while driving. Noel Gallegher seems to think that more is better. Four of the 12 songs clock seven minutes or more, which is usually the mark of self-indulgence run amok. The excess in tunes like "All Around The World" and "Magic Pie" could be forgiven if they plowed new lyrical or instrumental ground. "World" does boast a catchy chorus, but it just goes on too long. It also bears more than a passing resemblance to "I Am The Walrus," complete with lightly menacing string arrangements. "D'You Know What I Mean?," the first single, kicks off with a blend of computer bleeps, helicopter blades and wah-wah guitar. It never really transcends its incoherent, murky opening. It meanders along for nearly eight minutes not doing much of anything special. Oasis used to be able to get to the point in a lot less time. The title track retains some of the band's old conciseness, and it stands for that reason. "Be Here Now" has the overall effect of making youwish you could be anywhere else listening to something else. In this case, vague familiarity breeds vague contempt.

This album is dross. There is only one way to descibe Oasis; they are group of sneering teenagers who barely listened to the music of the late 1960s and early 1970s and missed the point. Any other insult would really over estimate their collective intelligence. I have not heard the other albums but could they be worse?
Johnny Depp plays slide-guitar on Fade In-Out. This is theirbest album yet, with louder, noisier and longer songs, thatare slightly more psychedelic too. the best songs in my humbleopinion is "Magic Pie", "My Big Mouth", "Be Here Now" and"All Around the World". One of the best albums out yet thisyear, in competition with Radioheads "OK Computer" .

I cannot imagine that this band are liked by teenyboppers because they create great music - I presume the reason to be nearer to the fact that - liking Oasis and playing their terrible rubbish will annoy the parents (a true teenage fad thing to do)! - Rebel until you grow up, then forget the crap they told you in the messy meaningless drift passed off as 'lyrics'! - To Oasis - get back to the back streets of Manny and learn again how to be someone!

I HATE OASIS!

I'd love to urinate on the master tapes, or unravel them to use as straw in the barn for the cows. I read some of the lyrics they have supposedly written and find that the message is continually difficult to find, and when one does find the meaning as indicated by the title, the message appears like a dull thought on a depressing rainy day in Cleethorps. I reckon the poet Alan Bennett could sing a more up-lifting song than these sad cases.
I Like Oasis

Oasis was a breath of fresh air when they came along in 94. Rock & Roll had faded and they brought it back. Again rock has faded buth there are alot of bands that say they are rockers but all they are just pussys. For example: System of a Down, Creed, and Incubus to name a few. Just lately the Vines have come along with a hint of rock and it is well needed. I don't know who these new bands were influenced by but it definately wasn't bands like the stones, beatles, zepplin, or the stone royaltys. It seems these new bands such as Incubus and Creed were influenced by sunny and cher or some pansy shit like that. If you don't like Be Here Now then you have shit ass taste in music.

Oasis are one of the best bands in the world but they should be more recognised than they deserve. Noel Gallagher - one of the great song writers ever lived.

THIS IS MY FAVOURITE OASIS ALBUM, MORNING GLORY AND DEFINETLY MAYBE ARE FANTASTIC BUT FOR QUALITY OF SONGS ON AN ALBUM THIS JUST PIPS BOTH THEM ALBUMS. ON MORNING GLORY AND DEFINETLY MAYBE THERE ARE A COUPLE OF DODGEY SONGS, ON THIS THERE ARE NONE. MY FAVOURITE SONG IS STAND BY ME, CLOSELY FOLLOWED BY ALL AROUND THE WORLD, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS A RESEMBLENCE TO HEY JUDE IT IS STILL A QUALITY SONG.
Oasis are so shit, the word 'shit' doesn't half empahsise how really shit they are.
