Comments for Oldfield, Mike, Tubular Bells II

The album is built up on variations of all the component themes of Tubular Bells, using the 90's technology. Apart "Sentinel", the tracks I prefer are "Clear Light" and "Maya Gold". The memorable live concert at Edimburgh has been fortunately saved on a video-tape ... G.L.

Mike created a good stuff, taking into account that everybody where going to compare it with the first part. Although some themes sounds very close to the corresponding pideces of TBI (i.e. Sentinel), others are completely new (still inspired in TBI). My preferred theme is Weigthless. TBII hasn't the novelty of TBI, but is technically perfect and much more complete.

You don't have to search for the best track on this CD, it is a whole album, all complete and perfect. You can't afford to miss it.

Those who are already to Mike Oldfield's music will assure that almost all of his albums sound better each time you listen to them. And TB2 doesn't make an exception to this rule: The variety of emotions and moods expressed through parts as different as Dark Star, Tattoo, or The Bell is amazing enough. But Oldfield's real strength is the unique way he puts those parts together to such a harmonic piece of music.

You just listen to the CD and you don't stop it. The CD is a great trip through the world of music.

I've heard this album decried as caving in to the popular "New Age" music movement. Indeed, it's nowhere near as raw and experimental as the original Tubular Bells feels, but I can't help but like the refinements. "The Sentinel" ends with an emotion filled-ascension, with elements reminescent of "Windchimes" from Islands. "The Bell" uses a major chord instead of the minor in the original, and goes over the top in a festive celebration only to end intimately and warmly. I think my only complaint is the dialog in the Piltdown Man revision, "Altered States", is distracting to the song's inherently humorous tone.

It is as good as Tubular bells. The songs sound like Tubular Bells, sometimes they are better. It sounds like a second (and sometimes better) try of Tubular bells. Itīs great

Are you guys nuts!!! Only 8.8 for amazing "Tubular Bells 2". In my opinion this is one of the best Mike Oldfield''s albums. You simply have to have it, if you aren''t an ignorant. The best tracks on this album are: "The Bell", "Sunjammer" & "The Great Plain".
