Comments for Oldfield, Mike, Earth Moving

For once, I'm in complete agreement. Nothing saves this album from deservedly being covered with dust at the back of your album rack. Well...maybe "Blue Night" is a shade better than drivel, but the rest is a waste of Mike's talent. Not even an instrumental track ! UNLESS you're religious, in which case you find something inspiring. Methinks Mikey was feeling a bit preachy. Brian "Kevin The Fish Made Us All" Smith

For me this album is almost as good as Discovery. I don't think it's a waste of Mike's talent. Good melodies, a song by Maggie Reilly, Hostage, Innocent, See The Light, ... I expect an album like this after Songs of Distant Earth.

It's hard for me to admit that, for the first time, I find an album by Mike not completely worth of him. Yes, good songs, good singers, a good album of pop music but surely NOT the best of his discography....an isolated case... G. L.

Worse !!! I hope, Mike has realized, that the times are over, where he could enter the charts with such piece of music. He should do, what he could do best: Great Instrumentals !

Yes, Oldfield shines when he's releasing instrumental tracks, but many of his songs I do like. "Earth Moving" doesn't contain many of them, though. "Holy" isn't bad, but doesn't reach its full potential until you've heard the "Hard and Holy Mix" on the Elements Box Set, but this is all production. The album on the whole seems over-produced and strained. I think an entire album of pop songs is a little much from Oldfield.

We don't have to defend this album from nobody. Good songs, excellent production, good singers, Maggie was back, and Belew adding his voice. Good pop stuff. Carlos Martinez.

A good album, especially if you are lloking for something not very in depth. And Maggie is back as well. Pity about Innocent, though.

By far the worst Album Mike has ever made. Enough words lost!

This album was so bad, that I never bought it. Heard it once with a friend. He immediately sold afterwards. However, we must realize Mike was trying to get a new contract. The only way out was to fulfill his agreement. In effect he did a "Prince" by putting out an album without much thought; just something to get him out of the contract. His two follow-ups also reflect his increasingly hostile relationship with Richard Branson.

Let's not forget that Mike had been under increasing pressure from Richard Branson to write commercial pop songs rather than what he does best- long instrumentals. By that time, Virgin Music had already opted to go the route of commercialism, compensating serious music for the domination of the entertainment industry. Gone were such creative artistry as Tangerine Dream and Oldfield, and in their place- medicore cola, an airline, and 4 talentless females who call themselves the "Spice Girls" (YUCK!!!). At least Mike didn't give Branson anything good to sell of his 2 most recent commercial works ("Earth Moving" and "Heaven's Open") before he left for Warner Bros! |-)

Anyone who chooses the Spice Girls over Mike Oldfield and Tangerine Dream is most likely on drugs. The S.G.'s don't prodice their own work, play musical instruments, or even write their own lyrics. All they do is sing, and they can't even do that adequately. I even heard that Branson once made a guest appearance as himself on 'Baywatch' where he had babes flocking all over him just for flying a Virgin balloon. I tell ya, the music industry is really going to hell.

It's people like Branson and Bill Gates that makes me wanna puke. They rip millions of people off each year by selling them crappy products. It wouldn't surprise me if they had already formed a secret alliance and planned to rule the world someday.

When I got got this album i wasnīt expecting such a thing! Itīs merely a late 80īs pop album, filled with worthless letters. Itīs got Mikeīs charm, but it could have used better poetry as well as one or two instrumentals. Overall, too commercial for this magnificient artist.-Kristhian G.

Good songs, a "Light" Album from Mike. Very good for a long lonely night on the highway! Adam
Yet another installment of the "Let`s see if we can make apop album that will sell a million copies and make me a gazillion dollars". Give it up and stick to what you do best,Mike. Long instrumental peices ...
