Comments for Oldfield, Mike, The Songs of Distant Earth

First track on this album apparently has computer graphics which accompany it but as far as I know they are only readable by Apple Computers. I have tried on an IBM compatible machine and have been unsuccessful.

The new album is very good. After the last two vocal albums, I was a little concerned. This is up there with Ommandawn and Amarock. The cd Rom version is not available for the pc as far as I know. I'm not even sure what is on the mac version. I'm intersted in communicating with other fans of Mike. You can reach me at the following email address ygpp65a@prodigy. Thanks Vinny La Rosa

I'm longing to know what exactly the CD ROM contains ... The music is very interesting, it could be a great soundtrack for a Space movie (written by A. Clarke, naturally...). It's a common opinion that it shows a clear affinity to M. Cretu recent works (Enigma). The track I probably like more than others is "Crystal Clear". G.L

It's another Oldfield, much more synth than Amarok or similar works. But due to its topic, it nudges in perfectly. My favourites are the tracks 3 and 4, which really create the impression of sitting in a rocket, which warms up before the start, turns on the engines and then dives into space. Great work, Mike !

This is a great album, but I feel the peak of Mike's career was releasing Tubular Bells II. The biggest problem is, that it is nearly impossible to write a better album than Tubular Bells II. I think all of his albums are great, it is very good to lie back, relax and forget about the world outside. You should also check out his sister's works, Sally Oldfield.

I really like this album especially track 10 and 11. I'm still looking for the CD-ROM version around Malaysia and Singapore. I think this album is one of the best intrumental piece I've heard since Tubular Bells II.

The multimedia stuff has apparently been done by a UK company called Balanda Ltd on a Macintosh, following Oldfield's own working using a Silicon Graphics workstation. Don't know anything else about Balanda yet.

One of his best!! It's great to see he hasn't lost his style after all of these years

I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing spending over twice the price of a regular CD to buy this import. After listening to it, I say I did the right thing. If you like Oldfield, you'll love this album.

This is the best album I've ever heard!! When I heard the first album of Enigma, I didn't think it was possible to make this kind of music any better. I was wrong. This must be the album of the decade. No one better, no one as good as.

This is one of his best, maybe his best album. Close your eyes and listen and you can really feel the songs of distant earth.

This album must be in everybodies CD-collection !

I have been working on a 45 minute mix of "let there be light" which is a hybrid between a medley of assorted tracks from "distant earth" and the dance mixes. There is even a little Carl Sagan to round it out! If interested...Drop a line RE: light millenia mix
Finally back to his roots, with this almost 100 %instrumental recording.
