Comments for Pale Saints, The Comforts of Madness

this is one HELL of a good album! I personally like it more than In Ribbons, but I''ve never particularly cared for the songs Meriel sings. It''s a 40 minute juggernaut of emotion, the music that haunts your most aching dreams. which is not to metnion the amazing pop sense this record has, finding intense beauty and monstrous hooks in their gorgeous cacophony. and "Time Thief" is one of the most brilliant songs ever written, from the harmonized bassline to the insistent verses to the blasting candy-pop chorus. music at its finest!
The Pale Saints` first full-length release. The sound is a "raw" form of shoegazing which lends itself more to early Ride than the full shoegazing sound captured so perfectly on "In Ribbons"(one of the finest albums ever released. This album features only Ian Masters on vocals because Meriel Barham had yet to join. The highlight of this album is the last song "time thief" which displays Master`s incredible talent for writing basslines. An album no 4ad fan should be without.
