Comments for Parton, Dolly, Rainbow

Even a guest spot by Smokey Robinson can`t save this one. A collection of shrill, vapid pop songs which seem to have been conceived as background noise to Dolly`s ill-fated variety show TV series, out around the same time.
Unlike the previous commentor, I find this to be a great album. A longtime fan of Dolly's, I have nearly every album she's released (literally hundreds in my collection) and this one has always stood out as my favorite. Getting totally away from her country roots (which she kept getting further & further away from after "All I Can Do"), this album is complete and total '80s pop. As previously mentioned, the album did coincide with the release of her '87 variety show -- but so did "Trio" and both albums were showcased on the show early on. Two videos were produced for this album, but probably didn't get shown anywhere but her show - "The River Unbroken" and "I Know You By Heart." The latter was premiered on her show when Smokey Robinson guest-starred. Worth noting: "More Than I Can Say" has essentially the same melody as the sought-after title song to her TV-Movie "Unlikely Angel" - rehashing songs is commonplace with Dolly. "I Know You By Heart" was later recorded by Bette Midler for the "Beaches" soundtrack.
