Comments for Parton, Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Dolly

With the exception of "Old Flames Can't Hold a Candle to You," this is among the worst Parton albums to date. The pounding disco rhythms and synthesized production is hardly conducive to what she does best; for one of country's greatest songwriters to release an album of forgettable songs written by others seems -- at the least -- self defeating.

Dolly''s had a pretty remarkable career, when you think of it, as it''s withstood crushing poverty, a long-running public feud with early mentor Porter Wagoner, her TV series bombing out during the ''80s, abandonment by country radio during the ''90s, depression, tabloid headlines, ill-advised movie projects, and this album, which, if melted down, wouldn''t not even make an acceptable ashtray.
