Comments for Payolas, The Best of The Payolas

Great to see this great Canadian band represented. I have followed them since their A&M(Canada) 4 Track New Artist Debut. Just a little correction to your Rock & Hyde reference...They were known as the Payola$ until the label and producer David Foster changed them to Paul Hyde and the Payola$ to downplay the name associated with the American Scandal. Still no US success so they dropped the name complete and Paul Hyde and Bob Rock created Rock & Hyde. Still no world wide success so Rock went on to Production fame and Hyde released one solo album around 1989. Sadly haven't heard from him since. Cheers

A strong Canadian band who just never got out from under a bad name choice. Personal favorites include "China Girls" and "Where is This Love". Question, Is the American music industry really that paranoid about bringing up the payola scandal, and does Dick Clark sleep at night with is face in a jar of Oil of Olay.

"Between a Rock & a Hyde Place - the Best of the Payolas", presents a good collection of songs from this great Vancouver band, effectively presenting their maturation over the years. It is truly unfortunate, IMHO, that the only CD release of their music is this collection.

"A great band for long road travelling, especially the Hammer on a Drum album! Now if i could only find it on something other than vinyl. P.S. it took me 3 years to remember the name of this band, but i never forgot a single lyric in the 5 years since i last heard the album!!!"

After listening to Rock & Hyde''s "Under the Volcano", then learning the band used to be called the Payola$, I bought "Between a Rock and a Hyde Place". One listen and they became far and away my most favourite band. The purchase of all their other albums quickly followed. They deserved more Juno awards then the four they got for "Eyes of a Stranger" and the "No Stranger to Danger" album.
Also known as Rock and Hyde, this duo`s biggest Canadian hitwas `Eyes of a Stranger` in 1982. Bob Rock has worked withseveral artists, including Bon Jovi, as a producer.

Good God, how I miss the '80's. I grew up listening to the Payola$. Today, I'm in my mid-30's and I still put them on fairly regular. Of course, I've backed-up my precious originals and ripped everything into mp3 format for durability and compatability (I STILL don't own an actual CD Player for my stereo). I don't even know if many people even remember that "Where Is This Love" was written as a reminder of the United Nations Declaration of 1979 as International Year of the child. My students are aware of it. It's a great song to use in a High School English classroom. Long live CAN-CON!
