Comments for Pearl Jam, Vitalogy

Pearl Jam is turning back/head towards a more punk, experimental and alternative(in the real sense of the word) style. This is not "Ten"...there are no "Even Flow", "Jeremy" and "Alive" instead we have "Spin the Black Circle," and "Bugs". Eddie definitely started doing more drugs doing this album that's for sure.... If you're not "experienced," don't bother commenting on "Bugs"..

And suddenly Eddie said "let's go Punk,it won't sell, will it?".But,Eddie you know it will sell, even if you make a record with you throwing up it will sell,so why bother? Even if you shave your head or give another interview saying everything-sucks-save-the-whales etc.etc. or make a noize album next time Pearl Jam will still be a hot-shot Rock Star band loved by many wrong people and you can't do anything about it.So go back to the "Ten" days and write a coupla true SONGS OK?Cos it's not like you don't play in this game any more,it's like you play it in a different way.

not as good as Vs., and not even on the same planet as Ten, which is probably the best album to come out of USA for a long time. As far as real music goes, have any of you ever heard of TOBY DAMMIT ? an excellent hard-rock South African band, but like all other S.A. rock bands, the record companies refuse to recognise any local rock as a viable export. Only ethnic African sounds ever get published internationally. contact greg at dennis@apollo.is.co.za for info p.s. we've also got the best dope on the planet !!

The only Pearl Jam album I like. Fantastic.

People are gonna hate me for this, but: I'm not a huge PJ fan, and I agree that Ten has a sound all its own, but PJ has gotten artistically better with every album. You have to ignore the Foxymop crap and listen to the rest of the album, but you can see how the band's sound has gotten more sophisticated. Trust me!

Why does everyone feel that they have to criticize Eddie's actions and beliefs? Finally, there is a band with a frontman who has opinions and cares about these opinions, not some arena-rock poseur. And to the guy that thinks Eddie is so strung out on drugs -- Eddie, as well as the rest of the band, has grown up and severely cut down on the drug use since their early days. Maybe someday, you will grow up too. Peace, love and Pearl Jam...

I agree that Ten was one of the best albums ever released. However, if you had asked me the day I got it I would have told u how much I thought it sucked. PJ has always taken a little bit of time for me to like it with each release, but when I get into their style I wouldn''t want to listen to anything else. Vitalogy, while definitely in a different world in comparison to Ten is a step ahead for Vedder and PJ creatively. I hope whoever starts to knock their latest releases will have the patience to realize what kind of art these guys create. Here''s an analogy for you: PJ is nothing like horizontal dancing - it takes some time to get used to. But like the aforementioned, there''s nothing like it.
This album, the much anticipated follow-up to "Vs.", was unique in that it was released on LP vinyl a few weeks before it was released in the form of CD and cassette.Sales of the LP were about 36,000 in the first two weeks of release and set a new record (whether this record isfor albums released on vinyl during the CD period or notis not known....).This album is better than Vs., in my opinion. You`re guaranteed to like it even if you are a medium-levelPearl Jam fan. There are two pretty weird tracks on Vitalogy, however."Bugs" (track 9) has a beat but reminds me of a children`ssong or something bizarre like that. It`s fun for a couple of listens or "now and then", but you`ll probablywant to skip over it if you`re really getting into the"serious" tracks on the album. The other "weird" track is the last one, Stupid Mop,track 14. This is, honestly, pretty much a waste of about 8 minutes of recording time. Sure, it`s fun totry to understand the fading, echoed speech that soundslike it`s from a dream sequence, but it gets old veryfast. Listen to this track once to satisfy your curiosityand then just remember that when track 14 comes on, the CDis over. The CD comes with a booklet that reminds one of the old LP days when we used to get so many great pictures and "extras" with an album. Word is that the record company and Pearl Jam`s management advised them not to include sucha thick booklet with the CD as it would increase productioncosts and decrease their royalty per CD. They said theydidn`t care and went ahead with it as planned. It`s nice to see Pearl Jam putting their proverbial money where theirmouths are as they have been in court fighting Ticket Masterin 1994 over what they consider to be unfairly high ticketprices for their concerts. Ticket Master claims its onlytrying to make a fair profit. But that`s another can of worms....As I pointed out the weird tracks on the album, it`s onlyfair that I say that the rest of the album is excellent.Like many Pearl Jam albums, it`s one of those song collections that doesn`t really contain a "bad" track andeverything is great. It grows on you very quickly (at least it did for me) and you`ll be jonesing to listen toit again after your second time thru.Curt RobbinsHerndon, VA
I think that Vitalogy is underated, and is one of the best Pearl Jam Albums. Its funny, nobody ever gives credit to the band's songs that are really not radio friendly like Corderoy from this album, and Red Mosqutio from No Code. These are two very fine songs that don't get any radio play, however are played often in concert.
