Comments for Pendragon, The Masquerade Overture

This album is an absolute masterpiece. There are hints at different styles of music but wrapped inside Pendragon's own wonderful "prog" style. (Hints of Opera, Gaelic, even almost Metal). It is a very emotional album too. After hearing Paintbox and the lyrics at the start of The Pursuit Of Excellence, I found myself quite overcome emotionally. Nick is obviously a very caring sort of bloke. The band play to their best on this great album which gets even better with every listen. Well done Nick,Fudge,Pete and Clive.

Paintbox and Shadow are really good. The only comment might be for the bassist to go and buy d'Addario strings to get a better sound of his Fender Jazz Bass. What he's doing could be well synthezised by Clive. More practice is required. Next time pay more attention when recording drum tracks. The sound of cymbals is a little bit different of what I heard. However the album is full of perfect music and fresh ideas. A good choice for a musiclover who's got used to Marillion, Rush and others. Regards, Sergey

Pendragon have come of age with this outstanding album of unashamed progrock. After living in the shadow of Marillion for several years, they have continued to develop their style and sound, and are now undoubtedly the most important progressive rock band of the nineties. Paintbox is a classic song with bass guitar, keyboards, and electric guitar each taking centre stage around Nick Barrett''s best-yet vocals. If the track "The Shadow" does not move you emotionally, you may need therapy. Fans of the Peter Gabriel Genesis, run out and buy this album NOW !!!
