Comments for Pink Floyd, Animals

***1/2 One of Floyd's hardest rocking records. Roger Water's constent cynisism and the over-indulgent musical passages leaves the listener somewhat drained, instead of yearning for more. However, some really good song writing. PRIME CUTS-- definitely "Sheep", the "Pigs on the Wing" songs, and bits and pieces of the other two. --J.Teel

One of the most provocating record that I have listened. Instead of starting to behave violent one should listen this record at 100 dB and after that you feel as you have beaten 1000 politicians to pieces (just a figure of speech, of course). EXCELLENT ALBUM.

Of all the Pink Floyd albums, only Animals comes close to the style of THE WALL. With its thought inspiring lyrics and constant pace, this is a definite #2 on my list.

My 2nd favorite Floyd album, behind The Wall, and in front of Dark Side... Must be listened to at a *very* high sound level to be truely apreciated

Mr. Gilmour's fretless bass at the beginning of "Pigs (3 Different Ones)" is the most cool piece of bass playing since Vic Wooten's solo on "Monkey See" by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

Possibly the Floyd album that you can listen to over and over without tiring of the sound. Sheep rocks !...Very inspirational lyrics. A little underappreciated IMO. Gilmour's arpeggios are some of the best in rock history.

One of the deepest Floyd experiences which will endure. This album is truly Floyd at their best. Its proximity to classical music in its magic, persistance and medidative style is uncanny.

I like the concept of this album! It's just great, every title is just about one kind of animals and deals with their specific characterisrics. Dogs, which are hunting each other, naive pigs and shy sheeps, which do everything they are told!! The Lyrics are cynical like on The Wall, so it's worth listening to it everytime you meet or acted like one of the animals, which happens quite often.

Good lyrics.

Cover shot of the album taken at Batersea Power Station, UK. Highest Billborad charting in US was #1. Based upon the Orsen Well epic novel Animal Farm. Tracks #1 and #5, were written as odes by Roger Waters to then fiance Carolyne. Track #2, Dogs, was first played while the Floyd toured in the early '70s and was originally entitled "You've Got to be Crazy". The same is true for #4, Sheep, which was originally entitle "Raving and Drooling". References to Mary Whitehouse, who was notorious in England for her pro-censorship ideals, is mentioned in Pigs. Although absent from the CD and cassette, there is a Snowy White guitar solo bridging Pigs on the Wing 1/2 on the 8-track version.

Most definitely one of the top Floyd albums ever. Have to disagree that The Wall is better. However, all Floyd rules. Middle three songs on this one can't be beat.
E-MAIL: tennant@edp.net
Great album. The middle three are the meat -- I couldn't care much for the ends. BTW, sbjones@acsu.buffalo.edu, George Orwell wrote Animal Farm, not Orson Wells. And since when where there dogs and sheep in Animal Farm? Get yer facts straight, dude.

I like this album very much because you have all time of the world to listen to the music. It slowly increases to a furious end - I never listened to it partwise - always the whole record, or nothing. I think it's the most underrated PF album and far above Dark Side. BTW, In "Animal Farm", the dogs were the bodyguards of the pigs, and the sheep were their mouthpieces ("Four legs good - two legs bad/better!")
E-MAIL: tsymeo@logos.cy.net
The best PF album; no question about it. Better than Wish You Were Here (#2), much better than Wall and Dark Side. The most inspired music & lyrics Waters ever wrote (Wall is far too gloomy, sorry). Truly a masterpiece. 10/10

This is very boring. The albums before "Animals" and after "The Final Cut" are way better.
E-MAIL: Jimmy Page
Fuck You, whoever said that this album sucks! Damn you! This is one of thier best!
E-MAIL: reeves@compuserve.com
Up yours, asshole!!! The reason why I thought this one sucked was because it was the beginning of those "Roger Waters" solos under the assumed name of "Pink Floyd".... Beginning with "Animals" and ending with "The Wall". You did happen to say "Damn that Roger Waters!", didn't you??? Please, stop contradicting yuorself!!!

Dear tennant@edp.net:
This section is for reviewing and criticizing Pink Floyd albums. It's ok to correct other people (sbjones@acsu.buffalo.net). However... if you're going to be rude, then be rude elsewhere.

Nothing could be more dreadfule than the redundant Roger Waters era. Animals-The Wall-TBC... 3 VIRTUALLY identical records in a row. Self-plagiarised and very boring.
E-MAIL: Rene.uyt.de.boogaardt@rivm.nl
This was my first Pink Floyd CD I bought. I just love 'dogs', never a boring minute. The start of 'sheep' is one of my favourite intro's I've ever heard ('time' has got also a pretty good one ;) ). For me this album is the last of the good old pink floyd. After this one they only make short 3-4 minute tracks. To bad, because I love it when they take the time to play a track (> 10 min). That's the real symphonic rock I want.
