Comments for Pink Floyd, The Division Bell

***1/2 The more you listen to it, the better it gets. Not quite as good as Momentary, but it'll do. PRIME CUTS-- "What DO you Want From Me", "Poles Apart", "Lost For Words", "Keep Talking", "take It Back", and "High Hopes". --J,Teel
E-MAIL: jpiirone@ceres.helsinki.fi
Really discusting album.... Try Roger Waters instead (eg. Radio K.A.O.S or Amused to Death).
E-MAIL: T_030F2_EO@SOLENT.AC.UK
Not like 'momentary' at all (many times better) A concept album about nature (But not all soft and green) Also includes fabo guitar solos
E-MAIL: rossj@bgnet.bgsu.edu
This album is almost better than monentary lapse of reason but not quite roger waters but this album is definetly high quality pink floyd.
E-MAIL: mirtaim@lycoming.edu
A good album but not comparable with the Roger Waters Floyd. Lacks the intellectual and musical intensity which Waters used to provide. Soft and often boring tracks. It seems to me, Gilmour undersands the lacking ...High Hopes!
E-MAIL: Xavier@utkvx.utk.edu
Reminicent of Gilmour's solo attempts. Does anybody else see the possible Roger Water's jabs in the Division Bell song (last one on the Album)?
E-MAIL: gruber@gwis2.circ.gwu.edu
Gilmour's openig solo in "Coming Back to Life" kicks my ass every time I listen to it. Definitely a highlight of the album. SG
E-MAIL: eagleeye@rhf.bradley.edu
'High Hopes' and 'Lost For Words' are 2 of the greatest songs ever recored. They say it all. Get this album, it's great.
E-MAIL: 94wi030@bama9.ba-mannheim.de
The Division Bell was my first Pink Floyd Album. I really love listening to it, but it was just fantastic to listen to their earlier stuff including Roger Waters ...
E-MAIL: ETURNER@ibm.net
"Keep Talking" is one of the most innovative songs of all time. The instruments and the use of Stephen Hawking's computerized voice are incredible.
E-MAIL: dschuetz@access.digex.net
Once again, a different sound for Floyd. Subtle, complex, musically sophisticated--not the brick in the face some might actually prefer.
E-MAIL: bacs@shani.net
This is a superbly produced high quality high fidelity album back to the "Animals" style which was so successful. This is true Floyd without any ifs or buts. The orchestration is excellant.
E-MAIL: gfisher@shore.net
What a colossal bore. A real disappointment after all the other great stuff they have done. Don't waste your money on this one unless you are a rabid fan.
E-MAIL: bawst2@pitt.edu
This is where Gilmour would have taken the band if Waters had left in 1976. This is a beautiful story of adversity then victory, of pain then revenge. It is almost perfect. It blows Lapse of Reason away! It's native song order (aside from Wearing the inside out, which I would put third) is perfectly sequenced, just like DSotM, WYWH, and the Wall.

I didn't like this one when I first heard it. It wasn't, of course, Waters Floyd. But after listing to it a few times it really grew on mw and has become one of my favorites. High Hopes sends me to another place. This dosen't sound like clasic Floys but get it. It's good.
E-MAIL: umrk@ra.isisnet.com
The absolute worst Floyd album of them all. This is the ultimate snoozefest; taken with Momentary lapse and Pulse, it proves that Roger Waters truly was the genius behind all the classic albums, and that the other can only come up occasionally interesting music. Why is Gilmour's girlfriend writing "Pink Floyd" lyrics?
E-MAIL: gclark@init.njit.edu
Unfortunately, some of those "classic" albums were also among the Floyd's crappiest- "Ummagumma" and "Atom Mother Heart" in particular. More of Roger Waters' ingenuity, I see. And, why is Waters' boyfriend writing his lyrics for him?
E-MAIL: hmm...
Well I think Gilmour is the one who is gay, Gilmour writes about relationships with men on Gil's first solo album. Anyway I dont care if anyones gay or not it's their life to do what they will. You must be an insecure closet case my friend.
E-MAIL: jesus christ.com
I LOVE MORMONS!!
E-MAIL: ba461@freenet.uchsc.edu
Excuse me Mr. Christ, but... This person never mentioned anything about being 'gay'. At least not directly. I also feel that one's sexual preference shouldn't be made an issue when judging his/her talents as a performer, which you've already done. Mr Hypocrite: You talk of hiding in the closet, and yet you leave no valid e-mail address. You also desecrate Christianity by masquerading as some of its most important figures (Christ and Matthew). And, to use such language as "fuck you" just because others don't agree with you...I can hardly consider that mormon or any other Christian-like. If there's any sick case here, it's you bud. Get some help, please... I LOVE ALL RELIGIONS
E-MAIL: hallvasa@stud.ntnu.no
I think thi is a good and well-played album. Definatly better than `... lapse of reasons`.
E-MAIL: mom99@kyoto-inet
I didn't like The Division Bell. It sounded like an attempt to revive old ideas that date back to Meddle.
E-MAIL: ajonas@aol.com
I disagree. There may be a few overtones here and there which *might* suggest past glories, but "Division Bell" is clearly a concept album that stands on its own. As in the case with many other great PF works, "Division Bell" owes its development to influences from previous albums from which it can build upon new ideas. To me, that's progression. You can trace the roots of most PF albums back to "Meddle". That was when they finally found their own as a band with a unique style of playing which exists even to this day. They may have gone through many evolutionary changes throughout the years, but the classic Pink Floyd sound is still there!
E-MAIL: Pink Floyd Rules!!!
DB is awesome and sounds nothing like Meddle!!!! Also how can you refer to Meddle as having "old ideas"? It was way ahead of its time when it first came out, and imho it still is! It kicks my ass every time I listen to it, for I'm always hearing something different each time!!!!
E-MAIL: JIMMY PAGE
THIS IS ONE OF PINK FLOYD'S BEST, NO IFS ANDS OR BUTS! IMPLYING THAT DIVISION BELL SOUNDS TOO MUCH LIKE MEDDLE IS A NEW ONE TO ME, ALTHOUGH I DON'T THINK IT'S FAIR TO USE IT AS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT AN ALBUM SHOULDN'T BE LIKE. MOST PEOPLE WHO SAY THAT THEY DON'T LIKE DAVID GILMOUR'S PINK FLOYD, ALL ON ACCOUNT THAT IT DOESN'T RESEMBLE ANYTHING LIKE WATERS' FLOYD. I THINK THE REAL REASON FOR THIS IS THAT THEY'RE PISSED HE IS NO LONGER WITH THE GROUP AND DON'T WANT TO ADMIT IT. THEY'RE ALSO VERY SHALLOW FOR FEELING THIS WAY, SINCE PINK FLOYD HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN INNOVATIVE BAND NEVER AFRAID TO CHANGE OR TRY NEW IDEAS. WHO WANTS TO LISTEN TO SOMETHING THAT SOUNDS THE SAME YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR, AS IN THE CASE OF ANIMALS, THE WALL, AND THE FINAL CUT?
E-MAIL: Nigel Stone
Nothing could be more dreadful than the redundant Roger Waters era. Animals-The Wall-TBC... 3 VIRTUALLY identical records in a row. Self-plagiarised and very boring.
E-MAIL: delarn@hotmail.com
This is the best album in the whole fucking world ever!!!
E-MAIL: fluffyq@hotmail.com
One of their best(sorry if it sound hackneyed).. The best songs are Marooned,Wearing The Inside Out...everything except Coming Back To Life and Lost For Words.Keep Talking was really a good idea.Carry on Floyd!
E-MAIL: AJH@March74.Freeserve.co.uk
Cluster one is the most beautiful piece of music i have ever heard, it takes me to heaven and back.
E-MAIL: metalove6@aol.com
This album has many songs that are UNFUCKNIREAL!!!!! (Got to admit) BUT......also some songs that should be flushed down the toilet! I hate to say it because Floyd is my life, but some of the songs actually are very bad. Wearing the Inside OUT, Poles Apart, and Take it Back are the Main ones. I have mixed feelings about his album. Coming back to life is one of my favorites of all time, so.....I give it a 7 tops.
Good Pink Floyd: A lot like Momentary Lapse of Reason.
gm77@canada.com
No doubts, one of the best PF albums. Very powerful job of this legendary band and esp. David`s best solo work ever.
Truckdriver
I like this, but it can't possibly have a rating of 10. This thumperflummox!
this is a very good Pink Floyd album. Not as good as WYWH or DSOTM. Who gives a shit who writes the lyrics the music is the most important thing. And Syd Barrett was the genius in the band and all the other members know this. Waters is very good but not on the same planet as Gilmour or Barrett.
