A Classic Masterpiece. It all comes together for Pink Floyd on this album.

I sympathised with the melancholy and fearful atmosphere of this slickly produced record when I was fifteen and this came out. The impeccable sound shook us all in those days and the album gave a picture of the darkness that seemed to start descending on the times just then. But I already knew magnum opusses like Meddle, Atom heart Mother, Piper at the gates of dawn and Saucer full of secrets and somehow Dark side was to tame compared with them. It was like easy listening experimental music. So at first I was enthralled, but got a bit bored with it soon. And now that I've overgrown some of my adolescent angst [not all...] I also think Pink Floyd got trapped here in too much self pity and rich men's perfectionism. Gone was the avant garde spirit that was a fight against all the wrongs that are displayed in the nice songs of this nevertheless historically very important record. I understand why this is their bestseller, but it isn't their best and proved to be a dead end. From here on they only repeated themselves, with mixed results: sometimes good or even brilliant songs [Wish you were here and Comfortably numb] but uneven albums, bordering more and more on bombastic failures.

Simply Floyd's greatest opus. (yes, better than The Wall, which was more of a semi-autobiography by RW) The one PF album which will transcend time. Absolutely brilliant.

Definitely Floyd''s most famous album. Personally, I have to hold it behind WALL, Momentary Lapse, Atom Heart, and maybe one or 2 more. It''s a very good album, but I feel there are many better ones.
This is a great example of classic Floyd. I love it, it`s great to listen to when relaxing.
