Produced by asshole extraordinaire Steve Albini

Kurt Cobain once said: "I like the Pixies so much that I should have been in that band". And Surfer Rosa was his favourite.

The definative Pixies experience, armed with electric and acoustic guitars, english and spanish vocals, and lyrics that discuss everything from incest to bicycles, this album grabs a hold of you and does not let go. And with a cover like that...you can't lose!!!!

Actually the track listing here is for the CD containing both SURFER ROSA and the Pixies first EP, COME ON PILGRIM. Just Surfer Rosa itself is about 35 min long, but well worth every minute. Their best song "Where is my mind?" is on this disk. Alternative mainstay.

I applaud that review that makes fun of Kurt Cobain. It an exaggeration obviously, but funny just the same. This album is pure genius.

My personal favorite Pixies album, but not necessarily a recommended "first buy" for someone looking to see what the band was all about. Production is rough in all the right ways and displays some of the greatest genius of what was "The Pixies." One of those few albums in your collection where you can say, "not only is there not a bad song on this album, I'm not sure that there's a mediocre one." Really kind of pointless to highlight any tracks... they are all simply superb. For those music listeners that cringe at rough production, I'd purchase "Dolittle" or "Trompe Le Monde" before "Surfer Rosa," but for eight out of ten of you, you'll purchase "Surfer Rosa" shortly thereafter and appreciate the underproduction as a signature sound. Simply a must have album along the lines of The Clash's "London Calling," or U2's "War."
