WEAKEST ALBUM!?! Surely that honour goes to Bossanova! This one has some classic Pixies tracks. Tracklisting: 1. Trompe Le Monde 2. Planet of Sound 3. Alec Eiffel 4. The Sad Punk 5. Head On 6. U-Mass 7. Palace Of The Brine 8. Letter To Memphis 9. Bird Dream Of The Olympus Mons 10. Space (I Believe In) 11. Subbacultcha 12. D = R x T 13. Lovely Day 14. Motorway To Roswell 15. The Navajo Know "Head On" is a Jesus and Mary Chain cover. Stand-out tracks are "Planet Of Sound", "Alec Eiffel", "The Sad Punk", "U-Mass", "Space" and "Subbacultcha" (my favourite anti-Goth song!).

What the hell is wrong with you??? Trompe Le Monde is one of their STRONGEST albums (next to Doolittle!)

Trompe Le Monde is the Pixies worst album (although it is still god-like). To call it their best is to completely over-look Surfer Rosa and Come On Pilgrim.

While it is not up to the Come on Pilgrim/Surfer Rosa albums, Trompe Le Monde is certainly a fabulous album. The way that every song seems to lead straight into the next one, no matter what the style of the song, just amazes me (The Palace of the Brine/Letter to Memphis trans. ROCKS!). The problem with this album is that no song stands out above the rest. Every song is great, there is no hit single or space filler.

The worst album??? Noway, maybe there strogest! the ranking is as follows: 1 Trompe Le Monde 2 Bossanova 3 Surfer rosa 4 Doolitle By the way Frank Blacks solo album: Teenager of the year is even beter!!!

Of course Trompe Lemonde is among the weaker of their otherwise heavenly free and mad production. There is however no doubt in the fact that Trompe Lemonde is more outstanding and full of ideas than Bossanova. Younger and recent fans have a tendency to like the last albums better. They somehow miss the real pixies spirit that exists for instance in superrosa album i.e. the feeling of total freedom of mind and imagination. Listening to that album is like making free fall from an aeroplane. Neither Trompe Lemonde nor Bossonova can be attributed such strong effects. IN spite of the above mentioned fact that the album as a whole is rather weak compared to their other works, I have to admit that Trompe Lemonde contains a couple of really unbeatable tracks that should go to history as the coolest individual songs ever written. Space, subaculture and Umass are the very most outstanding tracks of this album. Specially space is the track that raises the whole album. The obsession with the fact that the hero of the song is Jeferey and not Jefferey is significant for the pixies humor.

Trompe Le Monde is most certainly a great album, and I love their cover of Jesus&Mary Chain's "Head On," but I wouldn't say TLM is their weakes OR strongest album. Here's my list from best to "worst" (although none are actually BAD..): 1. Come On Pilgrim 2. Surfer Rosa 3. Bossanova 4. Trompe 5. Doolittle As for Frank Black's Solo's, I'd say none of them are better than the Pixies.

Frank Black solo albums better than the Pixies? Surely, whoever said that must have been taking the piss.
Their last and weakest album. Contains a few gems that hint at the old magic, but definately sub-standard when compared to earlier works.

An excellent purchase for first time Pixies listeners, especially those who prefer extremely well produced music. After a lot of criticism for the overproduction and generally poppy feel of "Bossanova," (probably the Pixies weakest album) "Trompe Le Monde" delivers the classic screaming alt rock that solidified their place in rock and roll history. Admittedly, this album has it's strengths and weaknesses, but it's strengths weigh so heavily in its favor that it garners "must have" status behind only "Surfer Rosa" and "Dolittle." For those of you who are more accustomed to the production quality of Nu Metal and Power Pop (under 30 years old?) Trompe Le Monde is an excellent introduction to the Pixies. For those of you those of you who approached the Pixies from the standpoint of old school alt/punk (The Clash, Husker Du, The Ramones) I would look to "Surfer Rosa" as a good first buy. Overall, Trompe Le Monde is a first rate album and a return to the raucous noise of "Surfer Rosa" and "Dolittle," albeit with the latter's production quality.
