Comments for Police, The, LIVE!

The 2 discs provide a "best of both worlds" sort of thing. The highlights of the first disc are the modified version of "Fall Out" and "Can't Stand Losing You." The first song, "Next To You," seems to get louder as it goes on, and "Sally" doesn't exactly let them finish with a bang, but otherwise it's great. The second disc does a good job of representing the hits. "Synchronicity 2" is astoundingly better than the already superb album version. A wonderful listening experience. The main fault is that there are almost no songs from "Ghost In The Machine."

Two exciting and energy driven performances. The faults are the strange repetition of songs(Roxanne,Can't Stand Losing You) on both discs, and, as someone already pointed out, no songs from Ghost in the Machine.

The Police Live! is a long overdue double album from possibly the greatest live band in history. The Police through their nine year tenure gained a solid reputation as extremely capable and consistent live performers. The 1979 CD from their Regatta de Blanc tour in Boston and the 1983 Synchronicity show from the Omni in Atlanta show two very different and contrasting styles of the Police. In 79, the sound quality isn't as good, but the Police play a lot more fiercely. You'll get as good a version of So Lonely as you're ever likely to get, but the show doesn't have a very strong ending. In 83, the Police were at the top of their game, the number one band in the world, and were literally unstoppable. From the first second of the show, Synchronicity 1 blasting in and turning right into Synchronicity 2, you have no choice but to hold your breath and let the music penetrate you. With the stylish backup singers and Flangers and keyboards everywhere, coupled with Stewart Copeland's unbeatable drumming, Andy Summers' all-star hairsprayed guitar, and Sting's insistent baselines and sophisticated lyrics, you will be entertained. As a plus, there are several songs that appear on both concerts, not simply because it was unavoidable, but it lets you compare the little differences and similarities in Message In A Bottle, Roxanne, Can't Stand Losing You, and So Lonely. This is a must-have for any fan of rock music. Dan Fineberg

I am a HUGE fan of Stewart Copeland and was pleased to find an album that accentuated his talent for playing drums. I was more pleased with the first disc for the reason mentioned earlier: more energy. The second disc did do great justice to what I thought was a less than primo album (maybe because I heard so many of the songs on the radio). I also agree that more songs from "ghost" should have been on this album as well-oh well, just gives us something to look forward to.
