When Perry Farrell broke up Jane's Addiction at their absolute peak critics and fans wondered if he really was crazy. But after PFP released their album, it became very apparent why he did it. He wanted Jane's to be remembered as a band that simply kicked ass and not one who slowly deteriorated in popularity and withered away in negativity. PFP's debut picks up where Jane's "Ritual de lo Habitual" left behind. It is quite a change from Jane's late 80's "alternative" rock. It combines surf-rock with Farrell's unmistakable warble to create simply beautiful music. This time around Perry delves into issues like sex and interracial relationships with amore subtle, less hard-edged sound. Don't be mistaken. Perry still rocks hard, but the drastic change shows how much of a musical wizard he is. Stephen Perkins, the amazing drummer from Jane's Addiction returns with a great variety of percussional techniques. Former Theloneus Monks guitarist Peter DeStefano and Eric Avery look-alike Martin Le Noble combine to create surfy-yet characteristically paganess Farrell sound. Songs like "Sadness","Meija",and "Packin .25" are destined to become PFP classics. Rest assured. Farrell is back and he hasn't lost any of the intensity his former creation left behind. This album shows the creativity only Perry Farrell can possess. With a 2nd album due ot this year of 1995(probably in September) watch for more reverb and hopefully more media coverage on PFP and Perry. He was destined to be great and ina sense his easy transition from rock-god to mid-90's rock-god can only be described as amazing. Get this album and any forthcoming albums in the future. You will be surprised, maybe shocked, but you definitely won't be disappointed.
