In denmark, this album is not publicly available; isn't that the same across the world ?

First, in response to the inquery as to the availability of this album, for a long time it was unavailable, but in 1993 was released in a limited quantity just before Christmas. I heard both a CD and album bootleg, and the legal 93 release. Get the bootleg, it is cut hotter and sounds a helluva lot better. The bootleg cd also has a few live tracks include. As far as the albums importance to a Prince fan...it's really not. It is supposedly the invention of Bob George, Princes evil alter ego. At the same time Camille, Princes good alter ego was in the studio recording Lovesexy. I wonder when he got time to eat and sleep? This album is no filthier than Lovesexy and nowhere near as filty as some of Princes earlier releases (Dirty Mind, Controvery, ect.) It lacks the spiritual overtones of Lovesexy but makes up for it in funkiness. It has Princes first attempt (so far as I know) at reaching into the rap genre. Biographically speaking I have heard rumors that "Cindy C" is about a young pre-supermodel Cindy Crawford and a trist in Paris with the purple one. And if you saw the Lovesexy tour, you got to hear "Bob George." It was performed as a sort of one act play which culminated in Prince being shot by a group of pursuing police officers.

The bootlegs of this album include vinyl pressed in clear, orange, and black. The cd versions are many and usually contain tracks from Chocolate Box.

"The Black Album" is typical of many Prince releases, overall it is a hit and miss affair, but ultimately interesting and exciting. The songs aren't as dark and sexual as some seem to believe. Considering he tossed this one aside at the time it was recorded, it is a testement to the fact that even in his outtakes, Prince is capable of great music...

I bought a bootleg of this CD back in 1993. I don't know who performs the songs, but it sure doesn't sound like Prince. Does anyone know if there is a bogus bootleg out there, or if Prince's alter ego really sang that differently?

I have been searching for an answer to the question of...how much is this album worth? I have an original picked up in an unsespecting used CD store (for $5.00) and recently decided to sell it to a music store which informed me that they could not give me half of what it was worth...So instead I kept it in my collection. It is a bit off the top for my taste but to be able to tell those I know that YAH I HAVE THAT is great. So if you see one cheap grab it, if you want to buy one not so cheap listen to it first.
orignally to be released in 1988 with catalog # 25677
Don't I get enough spam already?

I've got the original bootleg record. I found it in a second hand record store in 91. The cover is half black and white horizontaly. With big letters reading "BLACK ALBUM". If anyone is interested in it let me know.

I have a bootlegged LP copy of Prince's Black Album that I purchased in the early Nineties. The sleeve is all black, but if you hold it up to the light, you can see Prince's image in the front, and the list of songs on the back, along with "1988 Erotic City Records" and "NOIR 59" on the bottom of the back. On the LP itself, it has the listing of songs on each side. And etched on each side of the inner ring of the LP, just before the label, is "NOIR-69-A" on one side and "NOIR-69-B" on the other. The vinyl itself is in perfect shape. No scratches. And the sound is perfect as far as LPs go. My question is, do I have a copy of one of the original bootlegs? I've seen others sell copies on eBay that claim to have a bootlegged copy, but their LPs are labelled different, as well as the sleeves. Any help would be appreciated.
