This is their best work, strong from the first track to the last one....wich is quite an achievement in itself. It has some real dancing grooves with some unusual sound samples wich at the times was quite not the in-thing.You could call this Smart Disco ...and at times it moves mighty. Excerpts from the work of Edgar Allen Poe to Faustian symbolism...lyrics are standing quite good by themselves...Sure you can only listen to this album...but your body will feel an irresistible rush...In one word: a "must".

There is some variation in the songs on this album, which is probably to do with the two different featured vocalists, Freytag and Claudia Brucken, whose styles appear to be diverging, and the many session musicians that appear on different tracks. There are at least two versions on CD, one of which is identical to the LP, and another that has the extended mixes of several songs instead: the odd thing is that this extended version actually has less tracks listed as it connects the last two. I bought this for the rendition of "A Dream Within A Dream," basically a reading of Poe''s classic poem, set competently to music which has a driving, urgent rhythm and floating cornet (and/or synthesised cornet?). On the extended version there is a suitably splashy percussive break from Stewart Copeland and an additional synthesiser solo. Much of the rest of the album is too drum/synthesiser heavy for my liking, but it is certainly inspired and inventive and should have strong appeal to the right audience (fans of 80s dance music). I have the original LP of the album and like the last track with all the strings and thunder. About 10 years ago I heard a CD edition which sounds like the one the last e-mailer described. I love the way a longer version of Dr Mabuse merges in to a longer version of the last track on the LP. I recently purchased the CD expecting it to be the one I'm referring to, however to my disappointment it's exactly the same as the LP. Does anyone know how I can get hold of this different CD edition?
