Comments for Queen, A Night At The Opera

E-MAIL: mnbc3pjr@stud.man.ac.uk
Queen's most succesful album, "A Night At The Opera" is a classic mixture of hard rock guitar, mellow piano playing and layered harmonies all combined in that undefineable Queen style. Although it gets off to a disillusioned start with "Death On Two Legs" things soon improve with classic tracks like "I'm In Love With My Car" and John Deacons beautiful "You're My Best Friend." Brian May's Futuristic "39" follows - an interesting attempt at turning a sci-fi story into a folk song! Rather weird is "The Prophet's Song", which combines deep foreboding lyrics with a strange acapella section in the middle. The other two highlights are "Love Of My Life", which is sung with such meaning that one can't help but be touched, and "Bohemian Rhapsody" which will be well known to anyone who has not had a bucket over their head for the last twenty years!

I really love this album. Song 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is one one of the best songs that have been ever written.

Following up on 39 - i believe this was based on a Herman Hesse Story (German Author from 19th Century) where a man left his village to travel and returned 2-3 years later, yet the village had aged considerably. I dont know whether this can be classed as SCI-FI !!! Notable highspot for me on tha album is Prophets Song - triple part harmonies - listen to that with your headphones on

"A Night at the Opera" was the best rock record ever released in history. I don't find even a second in which the level of this superb piece of art weakens. PS: I find "The Prophet's Song" as one of the best songs of the record (well it's difficult, ALL the songs are BEST). And "Death on Two Legs" beautifully and powerfully rocks the begining of the Album.
