Comments for R.E.M., Out of Time

REM take a backseat from the grunge of earlier days and come up with some of their best, most melodic offerings.

**1/2 (5 star scale)-- I know that I'll probably get ridiculed, but Out of Time is probably their weakest effort. I feel it lacks in the song writing quality of earlier recordings. However, some gems do exist (even "Losing my Religion", which is probably the most over played song this side of "stairway to heaven", is a crafty cut). PRIME CUTS-- "Radio Song" (minus the KRSone crap rap), "Belong", "Texarcana", and "Half A World Away" --j.teel

It 's the first REM album I got and I think one of their best. My favorites are :"Country Feedback" and "Low".

imho, not their best, by a long shot. a few songs are just beautiful, but some of them get too much radio play. texarkana and near wild heaven feature mike mills either witth the lead voice, or sharing it, imho, making these the best songs on the album. out of a scale of 5, i give it a 3.

To say the truth, I still haven´t heard the whole disc, but I think "Losing my religion" is one of the three best songs of the 90´s. Here you have the best of alternative music (besides U2-they´re tied) Nirvana? Green Day? The quality of R.E.M. music makes these groups look like your neighborhood´s band. Oh, by the way, I love "Shiny, happy people" too (because it´s so stupid and heart-warming...:-) ) THE TRUE GHOST RIDER.

This was not my first R.E.M. tape, but it was my favorite. The Songs speak in a way much of their newer music has failed. Automatic for the people had "Everyboy hurts" which still can make me cry. But "half a World Away" "low, low, low" & "loosing my religion" define this CD as a masterpice of message music, though it may be somewhat depressing. _Jay

Out Of Time does not stand as R.E.M.'s best album by a longshot. It gets too saccharine, and it shows that success has gotten to Stipe's head. "Shiny Happy People" gives me sugar stroke. "Losing My Religion" stands as one of the most overplayed songs of the 1990's. And this album doesn't rock in the way that previous R.E.M. albums have. If you are into R.E.M., I guess this release is a justified purchase. I just don't think it stands out in the way many people say that it does.

Out of Time has some real gems on it. "Country Feedback", "Half A World Away", and the overplayed "Losing My Religion" come to mind. Throwaway track: "Texarkana". I thought I was listening to a Moody Blues record--yikes.

Every song is a masterpiece and Peter Buck's acoustic guitars ring splendidly

How can I do to get texts of r.e.m. songs? Please help me, that's my first time in internet!!!

I'm at last happy to find several other comments that Out Of Time isn't one of their best. The thing was, the world at last starting listening to them in 1991 and said 'oh, what a great band!' without having known about the older stuff - do U2 fans feel the same way about Joshua Tree? It's innovative and has some great songs on - but I find it difficult to listen to straight thru, and skip Radio Song and Shiny Happy People, when I occasionally listen to it. I like it better than I used to tho. 3.5/5; 7.5/10

i bought this album because i heard losing my religion and it sounded quite good but the rest of the album SUX except maybe for radio song where he makes fun of censors...the rest of the record is just stupid country music and love songs. if you like this kind of stuff check out hank williams and reba mc entire - r.e.m. are piles of puke.
