Comments for R.E.M., Monster

This is a very cool album. It is different from their other albums, but it still kicks ass!!."Strange Currencies" is the best song.

With the release of Monster, R.E.M. has come out with their finest album to date. Monsters' sound is unlike any previous outings by the band. Guitars are prevelant throughout, making "Monster" a logical choice for a name. R.E.M. rocks harder than ever on such songs as "What's the Frequency Kenneth?", and "Star 69"; however "Strange Currancies" is a haunting, yet lovely ballad. If you don't own an R.E.M. album, then this is a good first-one to get; and if you own other R.E.M. albums - and like them - then you'll most likely love Monster.

****1/2 (5 star scale)-- Unofficially the band's third best album in their evergrowing discography. Peter Buck, after a period of a textural guitar sound, finally finds the volume knob and dusts off the stomp box that he burried out of the closet, and gets back to the tone he once achieved on albums such as Pageant. The one great thing about REM is that you can count on them album to album to deliver. I'm anxiously awaiting their first tour in six years. PRIME CUTS-- "Fequency","Crush with Eyeliner","I Don't Sleep I dream","strang currencies", "Circus envy", others. --j.teel

Probably the most overrated band in the industry. Still relying on fans of "Shining Happy People" and "Losing My Religion" to boost sales as most don't hear this bad for what it really is: average.

This album was the spark to their tour this year without a doubt. Bang and Blame, What's the Frequency, Kenneth, Strange Currencies, and Star 69 seem to be the most popular songs in the New York area since they did Losing My Religion on the Out of Time album back in 1991. REM ROCKS!!!

not their best album, seems like a bit of an afterthought considering earlier, superior hard songs like "begin the begin" or "orange crush", but songs like "i don't sleep i dream" are up there with their best work. still, better than 99% of the tepid rock around right now and furthers r.e.m.'s position as the only true 'next beatles' there ever has been. hot press was right, they are the other fab four.

Best album yet

This album rocks! Can't wait to see them in Portland!

One of their best albums!!! This clearly proves that R.E.M. can forge new paths and conquer various spans of music. This loud and lively album contrasts to many of their other works, yet still seems to remain one of their best!!!

Monster is all right, but would not say that it is thier best album. "Green" is my favorite album. But Can't wait for Stipe in Pittsburgh!!!!

This albumn is crunchy & gritty. All the songs are good which is an REM trademark. "Let Me In" scares me and "Tongue" sounds Motownish and "Circus Envy" makes me want to pound something - I like the blend.

I like it!

This album kicks ass. I wont be able to see the concert, but as a long term fan I believe this is one of their best. Strange Currencies has to be the best song on the entire album.

The sounds of Buck`s guitars in the new albums are all great ! especially in "crush with eyeliner" , it makes my brain blows out of my skull ! oh ! don't forget "let me in" ! all the feellings of sadness, confusion and suffering are in this song...taste it ! now,i can't guess what will be happened in their new album (after monster) ...but i hope not R.E.M. in rap ! hehe **** for this album ****1/2 for the previous album (AFTP)

An overall excellent album.

This is the best R.E.M. CD to date. I love "Whats' the Frequency, Kenneth?" "Crush With Eyeliner" "Star 69" and "Circus Envy" the best. A great album!!!

This album pushes the boundries of contemporary music. Let Me In is one the the greatest songs I know. I saw their shows in Kansas City and Minneapolis and they followed LET ME IN with EVERYBODY HURTS... superb! This is their best album since LIFE'S RICH PAGEANT (one of the top 5 best albums ever.

This is one of the greatest albums! The best songs are I Don't Sleep I Dream, You, Let Me In. I saw them in Portland, OR and they rocked!

carvalho@lse...probably the most ignorant guy in the net. What he said really shocked me, because I could wait any word describing R.E.M., except "overated". He must be deaf, because anyone I know recognizes the beatiful guitar of Buck, and the deepness of the lyrics, and they just make good songs whatever rythm they play. I dare to say this is the most intelligent band in the scene. Overrated? Ha! (I mean, that was a joke, wasn´t it?) THE TRUE GHOST RIDER.
E-MAIL: r-wong@students.uiuc.edu
R.E.M. can't rock hard, and the over-synth and drowning guitars kill off a once-better sound. Too much MTV exposure in my mind. And to think - Stipe called the Beatles "easy listening." Surprisingly enough, R.E.M. does this much better than the hard stuff. Best to stick to the earlier albums, with rock that is pure, natural, unadulterated; in essence the great R.E.M. as we used to know them.
E-MAIL: dump@datasrv.co.il
R.E.M is the best band in the world today, and we should the best we can to understand the neture of the band. as for their latest album i think we should be glad that their is at least one band that do only as they fell like it and not what their fans or M.T.V says.
E-MAIL: herbert.zach@telecom.at
A new try to make new music. REM is making rock. They can also play rock and the songs are dominated from their guitars. Good try - good music
E-MAIL: dylan@lynx.org
A really great album. Also a historic one. Not because it is their best(I rank at least three of their other ones before it), but because it nearly killed R.E.M.'s image. Micheal Stipe was starting to ACT like a "STAR" a little bit and in my mind was teetering on the edge of being stuck up. Now that he's returned to his old self, I can look back at Monster and say it's a great album, and that it's aftermath proved what a great human being Micheal Stipe is(Hopefully, Bono will realize this).

Well, it may not be Bob Dylan but it works for me. Read your book of Mormon!!
