Comments for Rush, Chronicles

I like the line-up on Chronicles, but have yet to actually hear it (I don't own a copy). Although it looks like a nice compilation, I have heard that it's one for the person who likes Rush, but is too lazy to buy all their albums and just want the "good stuff". I am still wary of getting this one, especially since I have all the songs on it in some other form.

A model greatest hits album. It houses almost all the essentials a novice Rush fan could want. Of course, the die-hards will want ALL the albums...

I think this is anything but a model greatest hits album. The programming is very very safe and staid -- sticking to two cuts (give or take) per album doesn't take much in the way of guts or imagination. Songs I think could safety be deleted are: Lakeside Park. Force Ten (in hindsight I think this is a truly awful and stupid tune) Manhatten Project and Big Money (not terrible, but other tunes on the album show more growth) Songs that should have been included are: YYX -- This is their grammy nominated cut! And it's got a style that's truly unique to Rush On this riskier side, I would have also included Kid Gloves, and perhaps Middletown Dreams (a step forward in song writing) or Territories (has a very hard, but modern sound) Chain Lightning would also be better than including so many Hold Your Fire (which I think is the nadir of Rush albums tunes. Most the cuts are great -- especially the live version of Passage to Bankok since that isn't included on the Exit Stage Left CD.

How can you have a greatest hits album without "Xanadu?" I''m sorry but I prefer the recent digitally remastered cds: "Retrospective I (1974-1980)" and "Retrospective II (1981- 1987)" much better!! On the strength of the other songs- I give this compilation an 8/10!!!
2-Disc compilation, released shortly after Presto.May only be a Canadian release.
