Comments for Rush, Hold Your Fire

**1/2 I know I'm going to get ridiculed but I feel that this is their weakest album in a long time. Some great cuts on it, though. PRIME CUTS-- "Force ten", "Time Stand Still", and "Mission" --J. Teel

Lock & Key is the best on it. Second Nature, Open Secrets, and Prime Mover are all songs that should not be ignored. Mission is melodic. Time Stand Still and Force Ten get more play than the others, but shouldn't. Aimee Mann adds a good effect to the sound of a lot of the music. Its still a great album to hear over and over.

HOLD YOUR FIRE is Rush's weakest album Only two tracks are listenable for any length of time. Time Stand Still and Turn the Page. Everything else is trite and mannered.

Maybe not all of the songs on this alobum are peak performances, but it has three of their best songs: Force Ten, Time Stand Still, and Prime Mover. Prime Mover is an overlooked gem. The energy level at the end of this song is incredible.

Rush hasn't had an album as good as this one since 'Signals'. 'Force Ten' is definitly one of their best songs. 'Lock and Key', 'Prime Mover', and 'Open Secrets' are all underrated. 'Time Stand Still', 'Mission', and 'Turn The Page' are classics. 'Second Nature', 'Tai Shan', and 'High Water' are the weaker songs on the album. This is one of their best albums. They haven't had an album as good as it ever since.

Although this cd has many great songs on it, the cd seems to be overproduced! Unfortunately, the sound is so perfect that it seems like a 50:34 long song! There are so many great songs on this album that it is difficult to list them all, suffice it to say that my favorites are: "Prime Mover," "Tai Shan," "Open Secrets," "Second Nature," "Time Stand Still" and "High Water!!!" I have to rate this cd at an 8/10 and I own the digitally remastered version!

Hold Your Fire was the first time bought a Rush tape where I didn't LOVE every song on it. It has its moments, but it marked the first time my heroes didn't pull it off for me. The fact that I love every tune up until this, says a lot though. From here on out things are a little spotty for me.

After only being into Rush from their "radio stuff", this album got me into Rush again, but more in depth. The production is great, and the songs are too. Being a guitar player, you'd think I totally would write this one off, but it turned me on to the concept of each band-member actually contributing to the songwriting process, instead of just trying to stick their face in the limelight (pardon the pun). Alex's textural work is magnificent, and I really applaud it. Another brilliant album.
