Comments for Rush, Power Windows

*** Synthesizers become the main instrument in this fairly good album. PRIME CUTS-- "The Big Money", "Manhattan Project", "Marathon" "Territories", and "Mystic Rhythms" --J. Teel

Definitely their worst album. Even though there are a few really good songs (Mystic Rhythms), putting it together with all those keyboards makes this album unlistenable. I think Alex Lifeson broke all his figures on this album and couldn't play one decent guitar lick, so he used his feet instead.

Not my favorite album, but my favorite song, and some others that are high up on the list.... "Grand Designs" is a get-up-and-go kick the day into gear on a good note song, my favorite RUSH! of all. "Territories" and "Marathon" are high up on the lists overall too. To each his own. David

Middletown Dreams has the best 2 minute segment in Rush history ! Territories, Emotion Detector, and Grand Designs are all different but creative. The instrumental work is very advanced and progressive. The synth workl by Geddy is great ! One of the best, from the best band of all time.

Power Windows - When I first got this album, I almost puked. It sounded nothing like the Rush I was used to (Moving Pics, Permenant Waves, 2112). But, once I actually forced myself to listen to it, I had a change of heart. Big Money, Grand Designs, Middletown Dreams, Emotion Detector, hell, all the songs are great!! Once you get past the initial shock of the synthesizers and electronic sounds, its a superb work!

well, rush has never been that type of band to vigorously follow one format. if you listen to every disk in their collection, you will find experimentation. the 70's were primarily guitar oriented, while much of the material of the eighties used extensive synth. not to be scorned, just another charateristic to the eternally evolving band. "mystic rhythms" has got to be one of the best songs of ALL TIME!

I'm glad you are all willing to admit that this album was a big disappointment to Rush fans like us. But, as several of you have noted, there are a few gems on this album-"Mystic Rhythms" in particular.

Absolutely, my second favorite "art-rock" album. Another absolute masterpiece! There are no bad songs on this cd. This contains 6 of Rush's best works: "Grand Designs," "Manhattan Project," "Marathon," "Territories," "The Big Money" and "Middletown Dreams." A great song, "Emotion Detector" and Rush's second best masterpiece: "Mystic Rhythms." True, the songs on this work are shorter in duration than those on the live cd "ESL." I believe that "Power Windows" represents the evolution of the concept album to it's greatest extent! It could be considered the evolution of the concept album, which began with "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band!"
