Comments for Barenaked Ladies, Gordon

Initially catchy but in the final analysis shallow, annoying, adolescent pop.

Excellent disc ... catchy songs that get better with each listen. I haven't met anyone who doesn't like it. Do yourself a favor and get this one.

Superb! I saw them live in Wolverhampton, U.K. and it was the best live show I have ever seen.

A surprisingly effective balance of novelty tunes and (semi) serious songs. Pulled down by a few embarassing attempts at modern jazz, the album features several good tracks, particularly the poppy "Enid" and the more mature "Good Boy". After awhile, the joke seems to wear thin (you won't want to listen to "Grade Nine" more than a dozen times), but still a good effort from an interesting group of Canadian lads.

This is a great album. If you have not been to a BNL concert, you have to go. You can really tell that they love what they're doing.

The group's lack of pretension is refreshing. Most albums sound serious then sound like novelty records after repeated listenings. This album sounds like a novelty album at first (so does the group's name) but has a serious side and outstanding musicianship. Also a great live act.

One of the most fun and poppy albums of the 1990's. You will find yourself humming songs after the first listening. Not only are the songs fresh, but the guys in the band can all play their instruments! You need to see them live to appreciate a chubby lead singer that wears big glasses, and a bass player in a rock band playing an upright bass!

One of the best CD's of the decade thus far. Far from a novelty act, BNL can be dead serious and funny at the same time ("Box Set"; "Blame It On Me"). And musically, are they tight!

Listen to this BNL album first! It only gets better each time you listen to it. Hear the music and the words.... get up and dance.... laugh a little (or a lot). These guys are the best entertainment value you'll ever see in a concert, and you'll want to see them again and again. I've been an avid listener to their music for years and I never get tired of hearing any of it. Do yourself a favor and introduce yourself to this bands great sound! You'll love it! I've never met anyone who doesn't!

Definetly, their finest work....Gordon is a phenomenonal record. It gives you the sense that it means something more than just music...what else can be said...it''s GORDON!
The Barenaked Ladies shot to the top of the Canadian charts in1992 after the city of Toronto banned them from some music festivalbecause their name was considered derogatory to women. It quicklybecame a PR debacle for the city, as it is pretty obvious that theywould have to have never heard any of the music from this funny andself-mocking group to have any chance of being offended.
