Comments for Barrett, Syd, Barrett

This one's much less impressive than his debut - he had started to slide over the top in terms of being musically disfunctional. It fact it sounds a bit like those boring Pink Floyd records of later days, thanks to the production by Gilmore & Wright. There are just a few moments of minimalistic brilliance scattered over the course of this.

It only sounds boring if you're a rabid, biased Roger Waters fan.

How anyone could dislike "Effervescing Elephant" is beyond me.

It should be noted that many of the stuff on this album and its predecessor weren't necessarily recorded in order. Some of the tracks on "Barrett" were actually produced before those that are on "Madcap Laughs". And, both albums were released only *months* apart from each other. To use "Syd's dysfunctionality" as an excuse just because Gilmour is included in the credits and Waters isn't is totally irrelevant. Even if Syd wwere comatose he'd still be able to write better lyrics than Rog.

Any CD without Roger Waters's involvement is a marked overall improvement in music quality. If there were no Gilmour, and if RW were to actually write the entire music to 'Wish You Were Here'....just imagine singing "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" to the tune of Spice Girl's "Wannabe". Eewww...

Not as boring as all the boring tracks on "Madcap Laughs", which are by Roger Waters!

This album is way better than Madcap. It sounds more relaxed, and Syd''s playing much better here than on the first album. In fact it sounds a little bit like the Floyd ca Alan''s Psychedelic Breakfast (but without the bacon..).

The Album is a heavy summers day between storms, with occasional glimpses through the ripples of confusion Syd was struggling with at the time - it is beautiful and heart breaking with more dark than light - I love it!
