Comments for Basia, The Sweetest Illusion

Her worst album to date. As a Basia fan I waited four years for her new release and when I finally got my hands on it, I thought, this is nothing but continuation of London, Warsaw, New York. What happened to the the soul, Where's the latin? What one song??? "An Olive Tree" Not satisfied. Basia needs to sing more brazillian/latin rhythms.

This album is definitely a departure from "Time and Tide" but it really does have its merits. I don't care for the song Yearning...but I definitely appreciate the arrangement and the depth of sound (28 tracks of BASIA). My favorites are My Cruel Ways, More Fire than Flame and Prayer of a Happy Housewife. They're hip, they're cool...they're different. Though my perennial favorite is still Promises (from Time and Tide).

If you are a true Basia fan, this artistic work as well as anything she choses to do will rank #1(10 on the scale), untrue Basia pretend fans need not apply.

Third album from Basia and co-producer/writer Danny White is in a similar pop/jazz vein as "Time and Tide" and "London Warsaw New York." Songs are a mix of upbeat and slow, and feature rather lush arrangements, with an emphasis on percussion and horns.
