Comments for Springsteen, Bruce, The Ghost of Tom Joad

This one proves that Bruce is at the artistic peak of his career right now, 10 years after his big hit Born in the USA. There is no one else even close to setting lyrics this good and insightful to listenable melodies in today's music. Check out the tour for this album, too. He can keep 3000 people riveted, silent except for in-between-songs-applause for 2-3hours with just an acoustic guitar and songs towering in strength and compassion.

The final song "My Best Was Never Good Enough" is hysterical. A small comic masterpiece. I love the way that he pokes fun at "Gump-isms" like "Stupid is as stupid does" and then adding "and all the rest of that shit." This song ends the album perfectly with some comic relief after 12 rather somber, though powerful, songs.

Excellent album if you dig deep, thoughtful music. Not a rocker, close to Nebraska in tone and theme.Incredible lyrics and haunting melodies as Brucecarries the torch of social commentary put to music.
