Everyone should buy this album. It is the best album from the best band in the world. BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!!!

Without a doubt, one of the greatest pop albums ever made. The variety of songs found on this recording is impressive. Consider the country flavor of "Labelled With Love",the chamber orchestra setting for "Vanity Fair", the straight up rock romper "Messed Around", the psychadelic feel of "F-Hole", or the rhythm & blues feel of "Tempted". More important than variety is the sheer quality of each song, the obvious craftsman- ship-like approach to the arrangements and structures. Any dork can add strings to a pop tune, but if the tune isn't good to begin with, it's a waste; the arrangements here are tasteful and ap- propriate, not corny and pretentious. This is a good album to own, no matter what kind of music you're into. And if you are good pop music--interesting songwriting, great arrangements, kick- ass playing, incredibly catchy melodies ("happy" or "dark"), THIS ALBUM IS A MUST OWN. YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED IF YOU BUY IT.

A definite must-have. This is Squeeze at their very best. More than half the songs are astoundingly brilliant, and the others are ingeniously eclectic. "Tempted," "Is That Love," and "Woman's World" are three of the best Squeeze songs ever. The variety on this album is astounding. This is one of the best albums in the history of mankind. 5 stars, A+, a perfect 10.

What more can be said except brilliant!! I never thought a CD could be worn out but I came close to destroying this one from overplay. The lyrics are witty and very English (Piccadilly and F - Hole) and the arrangements are first class. From the rockabilly of Messed Around the hook - laden pop of Piccadilly (my favourite track) and In Quintessence to the country swing of Labelled with Love. This album is a highwater mark in British new - wave pop and did nothing but confirm that Squeeze are my favourite British pop band

It is nearly impossible to find anything wrong with "East Side Story". Although "Tempted" and "Is That Love" went on to be the classics from this offering, songs like "In Quintessance" and "Messed Around" are what make this CD so special. A MUST for every Squeeze fan, and a high recommendation for everyone else.
