Comments for Squeeze, Argybargy

E-MAIL: svivian@niia.net
"Argybargy" is the gem of Squeeze's "early" career (the second phase beginning after the group reassembled in 1985 with "Cosi Fan Tuti Fruti"). "Argy" is filled with matchlessly catchy melodies and often clever, involving narratives. Difford and Tilbrook show, on this recording, that their best work compares favorably not only with Lennon/McCartney, but Lerner and Lowe, Rogers and Hart, and so on.

This is a great album, but don''t you think comparing it with Lennon/McCartney is overstating things a little?
"Pulling Mussels," "Another Nail In My Heart," "VickyVerky," and "Misadventure" are four of the best songsever recorded. A few other gems make this a must-havealbum, full of irresistibly witty and charming popbrilliance.
