Comments for Squeeze, Babylon And On

Not quite the musical nadir that the previous reviewer seems to imply. Here the band embrace a wide variety of musical styles, on some songs it works, whilst other attempts aren''t so successful. However for the singles alone this album is worth listening to; Hourglass, Footprints, Trust Me To Open My Mouth and Striking Matches are all excellent. Other worthy mentions are Cigarettes Of A Single Man and The Waiting Game. In fact I can''t think of a track that I out and out hate, perhaps this is a bit of a quantum leap for the band who produced Cool For Cats, ArgyBargy and East Side Story. But the band show remarkable resiliance in adapting to a musical scene that was by now hostile to the values and music produced by the New Wave movement.
This is Squeeze at their worst, trying to revive a recentlyexpired new wave era with an album that seems to have beenput out for the sake of putting out an album. "TheWaiting Game" and "By Your Side" are good songs. Some ofthe others are okay, but half the songs are duds.
