Released during a difficult period of drug use, this album marks one of James Taylor's most musically adventurous and lyrically inventive work. The songs are wonderful, as you can really hear a shy, expressive young man trying to find his way. My favorites are "New Tune" and the funky "One Man Dog", and you must hear "Chili Dog" - this is a highly underappreciated album indeed.

I totally agree that this album is under-estimated in terms of quality and creativity. The tunes are some of best he ever wrote. As an album, the work hangs together very intuitively and it is very refreshing to listen to. So many ideas and feelings are freely expressed, unheard of anymore. It''s my favorite album, among other favs of his.
