Comments for The New York Dolls, Too Much Too Soon

E-MAIL: mwl4@psu.edu
Always on the lookout for links, newsgroups, etc. related to The New York Dolls or any of the solo act spin-offs. The New York Dolls simply produced some of the best white rock 'n' roll (a term I borrowed from Richard Hell's writing in Spin magazine, simply a classification, I'm not Aryan nation or anything) of the seventies and for that matter OF ALL TIME. These boys mastered "noise is for heroes, save the music for zeroes" style way before the Sex Pistols were puking up their mothers' thin milk (perhaps I exaggerate, but you get the idea). Just like Milwauke's Best, it doesn't get any better than this.

This is the classic Rock''n''Roll album of the early seventies.... the Dolls were on the cusp of major success when the death of Billy Murcia dealt their career a blow that it would never recover from. This album (with Jerry Nolan on the skins) is a showcase marking the transition from the raw blues-based garage of the sixties to the distorted punk sound of the late seventies. Never has a band so important been so ignored.....
