Better known simply as 'The White Album' Possibly the best of their later works.
E-MAIL: jlowe@central.georcoll.on.ca
A bloated, two CD album, "The Beatles" presents some of the band's best, and worst, material. With the death of manager Brian Epstien, the band was begining to fracture and, at times, "The White Album" almost seems like a compliation of four solo acts than that of a cohesive unit. Still, an incredible piece of music.

Well, the white album has been my first record ever and is my favourite yet.
E-MAIL: raflores@bga.com
while it may not be some of their best work, together or separately, man, you just had to be there. seeing an article in the berkeley barb of an upcoming beatles album excited the hell out of me. listening to the album for the first time, it was the best music ever (still is). like i said, you had to be there.

"The beatles" is the best album of all the pop music. It IS the pop music

This album presents a great collection of songs, which sadly deteriorates on the last side. "Revolution 9" is the biggest rip-off in pop history! Arguably the best track is the opener: "Back in the USSR", a classic McCartney rocker, along with "Birthday".

Somebody stole my white album, and i know who it is. if ever i see that guy again, his mother will never be able to identify the crumpled hunks of what was his body. First, i'd tie him down, and then with my mitre saw... I LOVE THIS ALBUM!

The most bad-ass album cover ever made.

Fuck all those detractors who say this isn't a great album. Much better than Sgt. Pepper any day. Yeah, they didn't play together on all the tracks, but so what? It's still The Beatles, and this album alone is better than anything the Fab Four did solo. Just as exciting and experimental as the '66 and '67 albums, but just a bit more down to earth. "Helter Skelter" has been covered time and time again, but the original just can't be surpassed in terms of sheer noise and cacophony. So many great songs, and really, after years of hearing it "Revolution 9" isn't that excrutiating, especially after listening to albums such as Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart (which *is* a great album), and Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music. So to those who say this isn't their best...I'd bet most musicians would love to record album this excellent. Cheers!

Having studied and listened to all Beatles' music over the last 25 years, I never continue to be amazed by the White Album. It's the most 'real' and honest collection of recorded songs that exists. The range, originality, innovation, and emotion found in songs such as Yer Blues, Helter Skelter, Dear Prudence, etc. is unsurpassed and perhaps will not be equalled in our lifetimes given the extraordinary confluence of people and events that shaped the late 1960's and music at that time.

Going along with what the guy at the top of the page said, this album is more like the four guys performing solo stuff under the title of The Beatles. I wonder why most of the song credits are listed as Lennon/McCartney, when it's clear that they wrote the songs on their own. Still, you can't deny the fact that there's some great tracks on this one. George Harrison really comes into his own on this album, and in some cases, outshines his better-known bandmates.

I am 13 years old and have been listening to the Beatles for about two years. I have many of their albums, love their music and my mom has some of their records. My mom has the original Beatles white album, Sgt. Pepper, etc. including an extremely rare radio interview record (recorded on one side only). The record is set up so that the disc jockey can ask questions live from a script, with the Beatles ``answering'' the DJ on the record.--rob wahl

The White Album IS the best work of the BEATLES, no question. I've been listening to their music all my life and this is the one I always come back to. I'm pretty much a late period Beatles lover (although I listen and love it all) and this double album collection is simply amazing. It runs the proverbial gammit: From the light-hearted, to the lonely and depressed, to the sensual and hard-driving, to the classical and surreal...this album speaks to anyone with half a heart to listen and absorb.

This is the best Beatles album, dammit! I have to say that John and George are much better than Paul and Ringo, and that the only bad songs are Paul's and Ringo's What makes a beatles album better is that Paul doesn't have any bad songs, or they sound like John's. "Glass Onion" "Happiness is a Warm Gun", and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" are the best songs on this album. If anyone wants to argue me they can try!

My dear 11 year old son is sitting in his bedroom listening to this record I bought when I was around his age, on my portable stereo turntable I received on my 15th birthday. It sounds as good as ever! I've been a Beatles fan since I was a young kid, and it's great to see the next generation getting turned on by the Beatles.

The White Album would make about 3 great sides. On the negative, I think it contains most of Paul's weakest material. Aside from "Blackbird" & "Mother Nature's Son", I could do without most of it - especially "Birthday", "Ob La Di Ob La Da" & both Honey Pies. I love "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". John's material is some of his greatest, honest songs. "Dear Prudence", "I'm So Tired", "Yer Blues", "Julia", "Monkey", "Warm Gun" "Revolution" etc Which brings me too "Revolution #9" - this is a masterpiece in concept and sound collage & sculpture. Truly amazing in the sense of Modern 20th century classical music and Grateful Dead space jams. How anyone could dislike this is beyond me. "What's The New Mary Jane" and "You Know My Name, Look Up The Number" have this same brilliant weirdness. The White Album is John George Ringo excellent

To the one who said that John ang George were both better than Paul and Ringo... FUCK OFF!!!! Paul's songs are the best on the record (Helter Skelter, Back in the USSR etc.) Then John's songs then Georges songs but i agree Ringo is not very good (But don't pass me by is OK and he's an excellent drummer)

This album would not even be possible without the help of Paul!!!! John Lennon's songs don't even compare to Paul works!! Even though i'm sad he died(murdered) I think that he should have given up on that "Give peace a chance" and dropped Yoko--that leech!! George Harrison should kill Eric Clapton for cheating with his wife!!! Down with Clapton!!!! To hell with yoko!!!!! May the Beatles never be forgotten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If anyone disagrees--speak up or shut up!!!!!!!!!

You're way off base. Paul was only great with the Beatles, though not on the "White Album." John's songs are much better than Paul's espcially in solo careers. John was open, honest, to the heart, spoke his mind. Paul only cares for "Silly Love Songs" and Desmond painting his face in the marketplace. The banal stuff the mindless pop fans buy, and that's the only reason his solo career is the most sucessful. Yoko was perfect for him and is a better talent than Linda. Anyway, it was Bob Dylan that influenced John to write about himself and issues. Paul was essential to the Beatles and was a major talent. Since then his stuff is "musak to my ears." John can peacefully sleep but Paul, How Do You Sleep? LONG LIVE JOHN

The Beatles are awesome! This album is the number one album of all time!!! I have just about every album released by the beatles. Our band started off playing beatles songs!!!! Paul, John, George, and Ringo are all the best!!!!!! There couldn't be a better combination of misical talent. My favorite bands are: Bush, The Beatles, The Eagles, Silverchair, Live, The Bloodhound Gang, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash (and Young). Is there anyone from georgia commenting??????????? I live in Byron, south of Macon.
E-MAIL: Epsteinwasn't good
Brian Epstein messed up the beatles image. He persuade them to wear matching clothes and get silly hairstyles. He had a crush on John . This made people think that John was.... you know. Although John was an all time flirt. There is no doubt in my mind he was straight. If you stick Epstein in a room with Yoko. Obviously Yoko was better for there image for the Beatles. The beatles were better without Epstein.

Almost unanimously panned by critics (as being disjointed and out-of-touch) upon its release, the ensuing thirty years has been kind to this album. Even the avante-garde work of Yoko Ono (as typified by "Revolution #9") seems to have found favor.

The most overrated Beatles album... Lots of brilliance and lots of crap. I'd put it behind Abbey Road, Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour Rubber Soul, and Sgt. Pepper's...which still isn't bad. 7.5/10 (Does anybody REALLY like stuff like "Why Don't We Do it in the Road"?
